Coup 53 is feature documentary film about the 1953 coup in Iran, directed by Taghi Amirani and edited by the legendary Walter Murch (The Godfather I, II and III, Apocalypse Now, The English Patient).
My role was to come up with a typography treatment for the opening credits and to design other motion graphics elements for the film.
The theme of redacted documents, typed on old-fashioned typewriter with marks and scribbles over it had to permeate the overall look and feel. Working closely with the director and the editor I came up with a concept where typography is brought to life in a tactile manner by utilising paper textures.

The film had its premiere in 2019 in the UK as part of the BFI film festival. It is currently screened across the US at various festivals. For more info and film trailer please see the film's official website.
